The recently released 2026–2027 PIR Change Highlights (Version 1.0) fall into the latter category, with updates that include terminology changes, additional reporting options, and several new questions related to disability and education services.

• Updated terminology: Throughout the PIR, references to "enrollment year" have been updated to "program year" for greater consistency.

• Clarified reporting instructions: Several questions include revised instructions to reduce confusion and improve reporting accuracy, including updates to Program Information questions and clarification that PIR data is not used for compliance purposes.

• Improvements to disability and education reporting: Several updates were made to better capture services related to:

  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

  • Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs)

  • Section 504 Plans

  • IDEA eligibility

  • Reasons children did not receive services

  • Updated disability classifications

  The PIR also introduces new questions related to children with 504 Plans and requests additional detail when eligible children do not receive IEP or IFSP services.

• Language updates: The terminology for Native languages has also been updated to use "Tribal/Native Languages."
