What's brewing in August?

New year. New families. Fresh start.

August sets the tone for the entire program year. Whether you're onboarding new staff, welcoming families, or planning for review this year, GoEngage is here to simplify your workflows, support compliance, and give your team the tools they need to hit the ground running. Here's what's brewing this month!

August Tips: 4 Attendance Tips to Start the Year Strong

Support families. Meet HSPPS. Track what matters.

Regular attendance is essential for school readiness—and it's closely monitored in every federal review. Here are 4 powerful ways GoEngage can help you reduce chronic absenteeism and stay proactive:

Tip 1: Create Attendance Plans for At-Risk Children

When a child is frequently absent, GoEngage makes it easy to create a personalized Attendance Improvement Plan.

Track barriers, set goals, assign solutions, and log progress over time.

You'll even see their chronic absenteeism rate before and after the plan to measure impact.

💡Start from the “Absenteeism Alerts” or “Attendance Plan” Task to begin tracking progress today.

Tip 2: Alert Staff to Absence Patterns

Your team can’t fix what they don’t know. GoEngage automatically flags attendance concerns by classroom or caseload—ensuring staff can take action early.

Use these automatic alerts to launch follow-up, create plans, and reduce the risk of chronic absenteeism before it spirals. Triggers can be configured in a variety of ways:

  • ___ absences in a row (e.g. 2 consecutive days, like Feb 14–15)

  • ___ same-weekday absences in a row (e.g. 3 Tuesdays in a row)

  • ___ absences over ___ weeks

💡 Let GoEngage make this part of your routine by automatically sending staff “Absenteeism Alerts” to stay ahead.

Tip 3: Automate Parent Notifications for Unexcused Absences

Keep families in the loop without lifting a finger. With GoEngage, you can set up automated text and email alerts to notify parents/guardians when their child is unexpectedly absent to meet HSPPS 1302.16(a)(1).

Customize the message, choose which contacts receive it, and GoEngage handles the rest—in the family's preferred language.

💡 Enable this in System Settings > Absenteeism Alerts to start building stronger communication habits.

Tip 4: Get More Accurate Absenteeism Rates for Newly Enrolled Children

Newly enrolled children often start with high absenteeism rates—just because they’ve only had a few days on record. GoEngage gives you two smart ways to fix that:

  • Option 1: Class Days Elapsed

Only count school days that have occurred since the child’s enrollment—no more inflated percentages.

  • Option 2: Fixed 60-Day Enrollment Window

For a child’s first 60 calendar days, use a fixed base to calculate absenteeism. After that, GoEngage automatically switches to class days elapsed.

Both options help you tell a more accurate story—and avoid red flags in your early reports.

💡 Enable this setting in Admin > Absenteeism Settings to fine-tune your data right from the start.
